Who is the biggest-spending club in Europe in the 2024 summer transfer window?

The 2024 summer transfer window is open and there have already been plenty of confirmed deals. Man Utd have climbed up the ranking after their double signing.

All fees and figures are taken from Transfermarkt

The biggest-spending clubs in Europe this summer

10) Tottenham – £104m
After signing a whole load of 18 year olds, Tottenham have made the potential club-record purchase of the positively ancient and really quite good Dominic Solanke for the biggest fee paid by any team so far this summer.

9) PSG – £104.1m
The £50m signing of Joao Neves from Benfica and capture of Willian Pancho for about £40m has propelled them into the big time. Obviously not as big as Aston Villa, but then who is?

8) Brighton – £106m
Known for their selling prowess, Brighton are going for it this summer, signing wingers Ibrahim Osman, Yankuba Minteh and Brajan Gruda, as well as central midfielder Mats Wieffer.

7) Lyon – £114.9m
The French club have chucked a whole load of money at Nottingham Forest for Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate, which does not sound in the slightest bit dodgy. They have also signed Said Benrahma from West Ham, Ernest Nuamah from RWD Molenbeek, Real Betis’ Abner, Troyes’ Mama Balde, Southampton’s Duje Caleta-Car and Euro 2024 star Georges Mikautadze, all of which make slightly more sense.

6) Atletico Madrid – £121m
Bridging the gap between themselves and the El Clasico pair has always been a task Atletico have relished, and they have signed Julian Alvarez from Man City in their latest attempts to do so. He joins Alexander Sorloth – another Norwegian unit – and Robin Le Normand.

5) Bayern Munich – £121.5m
There have been no bigger individual transfers this summer than Michael Olise’s £45m-plus move to Vincent Kompany’s German giants from Crystal Palace and Joao Palhina’s £43m switch from Fulham. Chuck in a Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart and Bryan Zaragoza from Granada and Bayern have taken Leverkusen’s rise personally.

4) West Ham – £123.4m
There have been four big-ticket signings for Julen Lopetegui, with Max Kilman the most expensive.

3) Man Utd – £140.5m
Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee have been joined at Old Trafford by Bayern Munich duo Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, who scratches a certain itch for Erik ten Hag, who loves signing ex-Eredivisie players, and most certainly loves signing players he managed at Ajax.

2) Aston Villa – £150.7m
What better way to prepare for a first season of Champions League football than by signing a Champions League runner-up? Ian Maatsen had an abysmal 10 minutes in that final defeat to Real Madrid but is a fine addition, alongside PSR fans Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin and the returning pair of Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene.

The £50m signing of Amadou “Andre is not even my name mate” Onana has taken Unai Emery’s side up to first above Bayern.

1) Chelsea – £161.7m
The arrival of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for £30m rocketed them into this top 10 and – unlike Omari Kellyman – he might actually play some games for the Blues. As should new goalkeeper signing Filip Jorgensen. The more recent additions of Aaron Anselimo and Pedro Neto sees the 2023 champions back where they belong. The mad b**tards.
