Wealth tax looms amid pressure from Labour’s union paymasters

The Chancellor refused to rule out a direct tax on the wealthiest households on Wednesday after Unite, the UK’s largest union, said it was time for a raid on “the super-rich”. It will fuel further fears of a tax grab after Sir Keir Starmer warned of a “painful” Budget as the Government seeks to fill what it claims is a £22bn “black hole” in the public finances.
