De Minaur gets win against Thompson in four sets
Game, set and match.
Alex de Minaur will play Jack Draper in the men’s quarter-finals after beating fellow countryman Jordan Thompson 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in just under three hours.
It wasn’t smooth finish to the night, with de Minaur finding his seventh double fault in the final game of the match, but the world No. 10 found an ace before drawing an error from Thompson to secure victory.
De Minaur to serve for the match
De Minaur gets the break to go up 6-5 in the fourth set and serve for the match.
It was a beautiful backhand down the line from de Minaur followed by an error from Thompson that closed out that game.
This match is on de Minaur’s racquet now, and he should be good enough to close it out.
Double faults from de Minaur
A couple of double faults from de Minaur and Thompson is back in this set.
We’ve just gone past the two and a half hour mark on court and the two Aussies are locked 4-4 in the fourth set.

Finish line in sight for de Minaur
Thompson had a couple of chances to close out the game, but de Minaur makes his way in and gets the break.
Once again more errors from Thompson than winners from de Minaur and the Australian world No.10 is close to finishing this match. He leads 4-3 in the fourth set and is about to serve.
Swiatek takes first set against Samsonova
Over to the women’s match on Arthur Ashe Stadium, where world No.1 Iga Świątek has taken the first set against Liudmila Samsonova.
Looks like Swiatek is going to close this one out easily today, she’s already up a break in the second.
The winner of that match will play American Jessica Pegula in the quarter-final.
Demon gets the break back
And there we have it, de Minaur digs in to get the break back straight away.
Too much class from the world No.10, this is where his experience starts to really work in his favour.
A couple of great shots from de Minaur, but he actually just sat back and let Thompson self-destruct. Too many errors.
Thompson breaks in the fourth
Thompson gets the break in this fourth set after a double fault from de Minaur.
Maybe that will make him a little happier. He can’t win this match with the attitude he has on court at the moment. If something doesn’t go his way it completely throws him off his game.
De Mianur’s looking to break back straight away, he’s up 40-15 on Thompson’s serve.
Thompson holds but loses his cool
Thompson’s starting to lose his cool again.
He holds his first service game in this set, but not without difficulty and a thrown racquet.
He follows up his little tantrum with an ace down the line before closing out the game on the next point.
His coachi is holding his hand through this a bit, lots of encouragement from the player’s box.
