Pakistan batter Abdullah Shafique notched up an unwanted record as he joined the list of batters who have been dismissed for 3 consecutive ducks in ODIs.
Shafique has had a series to forget against South Africa, scoring his recent duck in the third ODI against the Proteas on Sunday in Johannesburg where he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the first ball of the match.
In the 1st and 2nd ODI at the Paarl and Cape Town respectively, the Pakistan opener also went scoreless with Marco Jansen snapping him up in both occasions.
This led to Shafique join a list which has Sachin Tendulkar, Suryakumar Yadav, Andrew Symonds, Salman Butt and Anil Kumble among others.
If Shafique scores another duck in his next ODI, he will join the likes of Lasith Malinga, Craig White and Henry Olonga in the list of batters with 4 consecutive 0s in ODIs.
Pakistan have already won the ODI series vs South Africa, their second straight major one-day international series away from home when they defeated the hosts in the 2nd match.
After beating Australia 2-1 last month, Pakistan had taken the Proteas down 2-0 with a game to spare. The match on Sunday will be to see in Pakistan can complete a whitewash.
In that match, half-centuries by Babar Azam, captain Mohammad Rizwan and allrounder Kamran Ghulam staked Pakistan to 329 all out.
Heinrich Klaasen hit 97 but South Africa’s chase was strangled by Pakistan, and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi ended the last meaningful resistance with three wickets in three overs. Klaasen was the last man out on 248 in the 44th over.
