Neeraj Chopra, Brussels DL, Diamond League Final Live: India’s two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra will return to action on Saturday night when he steps out to compete in the Diamond League final at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.
The 27-year-old Neeraj has not performed at the peak of his powers this season as he competed in the Paris Olympics and the proceeding Diamond League meet in Lausanne in August while continuing to grapple with a long-standing groin issue. But despite that, he has registered three 89+ throws in the space of one month. While he finished second in both those events on the back of one outstanding throw each, Neeraj will hope for a strong finish to the season.
The Indian superstar bagged the second spot in the Diamond League Finals last year, behind Czechia’s Jakub Vadlejch. Neeraj secured his qualification for the seven-man final, by finishing fourth in the standings with 14 points, behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters, Julian Weber and Vadlejch. Vadlejch has since withdrawn.
An intense battle awaits in the Brussels finale, where perhaps Peters will start the favourite.
