ISL: Chennaiyin FC pump five goals past Jamshedpur FC to triumph 5-1 and rise to 6th spot

ISL: Chennaiyin FC thumped five goals past a hapless Jamshedpur FC in their Indian Super League clash to claim a 5-1 victory at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Monday.

Thanks to the win, Chennaiyin FC moved up from eighth to sixth position in the ISL table with 11 points from three wins, two draws and two losses in seven matches. On the other hand, head coach Khalid Jamil will surely be disappointed with the Red Miners’ second consecutive defeat and the collapse of their fort. Jamshedpur FC remain fourth in the table with 12 points from four wins and three losses in seven matches.

Chennai were leading from the sixth minute of the match itself, thanks to an own goal from Pratik Chaudhari. The team from Tamil Nadu never looked back from that stage. By the 22nd minute, the Chennai-based franchise had surged to a 2-0 lead thanks to Irfan Yadwad, who banged in a right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner.

Jamshedpur barely had time to register what had happened when Irfan Yadwad turned facilitator two minutes later as he assisted Chennaiyin FC’s third goal which Connor Shields scored with his left foot from outside the box, slating it into the bottom right corner.

Jamshedpur responded well to this challenge by taking their chances, first with Javi Siverio and then with Muhammed Uvais getting a chance to score. Unfortunately for them, none of them were capable of going into the Chennaiyin goal.

Festive offer

Coming out after half-time, Chennaiyin FC lost no time in extending their lead to 4-0 with Irfan Yadwad assisting another goal and Wilmar Jordán Gil netting his first of the night.

The final nail in the coffin of Jamshedpur FC was struck by Lukas Pivetta Brambilla, who scored Chennaiyin FC’s fifth goal of the night.

Jamshedpur did end the night with a goal, with Javi Hernández scoring from the penalty spot in the 81st minute. But by then, it was too late.
