Bihar CM announces 10 lakh cash price for 14-year-old IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Rajasthan Royals’ biggest revelation this season has been breaking records on the go. After yet another record-breaking night for RR against Gujarat Titans in which the 14 years and 32 day old (youngest to do so) hit an unbelievable 35-ball century , celebrations reached yet another high with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar joining in. In a post on X, the Chief Minister announced a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees for the teenager.

Suryavanshi has been dubbed as the next ‘big thing’ in cricket, breaking records and attracting praise from  the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and many more. The latter, reacting to Suryavanshi’s century, said, “We are witnessing the rise of a phenom. Indian cricket’s next super star is here.”

What did CM Nitish Kumar say?

In a post on X, the Govt official said, “Congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL…..Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country.”

Besides becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League, his ton was 93% composed of boundaries (94 runs out of 101), yet another record for the youngster in terms of runs scored from boundaries while hitting a 100.

Nitish Kumar also recalled in his post on X, how he met the rookie and his father back in 2024, where he wished the RR man a bright future.

Festive offer

Suryavanshi has been one of the few rays of hope for a dysfunctional RR stuck in the bottom half of the table. With every passing game, his loud introduction to the IPL with a six on his first ever ball in the competition is shaping up to be just a precursor for what the little man can conjure from the crease.
