Adrien Rabiot is still at the top of this list of available players which now features such luminaries as John Egan and Anthony Martial.
Here they are, ranked according to transfermarkt valuations…
1) Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)
The Frenchman wisely decided that if he waited long enough then Manchester United would panic into signing him on massive wages. It might yet happen.
2) Memphis Depay (Atletico Madrid)
Another club, more brief signs of promise, but ultimately that same feeling of relative disappointment at an underwhelming spell. PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico is a brilliant career path and it looks like Sevilla could be next.
3) Anthony Martial (Manchester United)
It will be genuinely intriguing to see where Martial lands after an inauspicious end to almost ten years at Old Trafford.
4) Yusuf Yazici (Lille)
“I still have a lot of dreams in football. Of course, you can’t be insensitive to clubs like Milan. It’s Ronaldinho, it’s Beckham. We’ll see what the future has in store for me,” the 27-year-old said recently. He played at Euro 2024 for Turkey without a club team.
5) Andre Gomes (Everton)
The end of an unfathomably long era.
6) Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco)
A 16-goal Ligue Un season did not stop Monaco allowing Ben Yedder to leave. There are ongoing investigations into a rape case so he may be restricted to options in the Middle East.
7) Joel Matip (Liverpool)
Such a good defender. But also, never fit. Lazio are among those clubs linked with the Cameroonian who became an Anfield hero.
8) Sofiane Boufal (Al-Rayyan)
The former Southampton winger has been released by the Qatari club after failing to find his feet.
9) Alex Telles (Al Nassr)
Earned a small fortune from a year in Saudi Arabia but now likely to head back to his native Brazil.
10) Anton Miranchuk (Loko Moscow)
Russian attacking midfielder who has been attracting interest from Sevilla along with his brother.
11) Iker Muniain (Athletic Bilbao)
Not since 2005 has Muniain been contracted to another club at any level and that remains the case for Athletic’s second-highest appearance maker.
12) Aaron Boupendza (Cincinnati)
The Gabon striker has had his contract terminated by the MLS club just a few months after his jaw was broken in a bar brawl with a professional boxer, which was perhaps not the smartest move.
13) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Leaving Dortmund and reportedly bitter about missing out on the Euro 2024 squad, but he might see out the rest of his career in Bologna. Or Brighton.
14) Marlon (Shakhtar Donetsk)
There is slight confusion over the future of former Barcelona centre-half Marlon, who was previously thought to be Saudi-bound before issues arose in his medical.
15) Robert Skov (TSG Hoffenheim)
Danish international winger or wing-back who is most comfortable on the left.
16) Dele (Everton)
Everton are basically trying to negotiate some sort of compromise with Tottenham over the deal which saw Dele join them as a free agent with up to £40m in clauses. He is still training with the Toffees.
17) Leonardo Lopes (Cercle Brugge)
Peterborough, Wigan, Gillingham, Hull, Cercle Brugge, ????
18) Youcef Atal (Adana Demirspor)
Algerian international who was convicted of inciting racial hatred and dumped by Nice, so he could find it tricky to find a new club in western Europe.
19) Naim Sliti (Al-Ahli)
Tunisian winger who might actually play in Tunisia for the first time after being released by his Qatari club.
20) John Egan (Sheffield United)
After six seasons with the Blades, the 31-year-old defender has been training with Burnley.
