Here is the worst player for every Premier League club in 2024/25. We are using WhoScored average match ratings, so shout at them, not us.
We are only including players with at least 300 minutes played and will increase that threshold throughout the season. If you were not aware, we are only nine games deep.
Every Premier League club’s worst player this season
Arsenal: Leandro Trossard (6.66)
Trossard has two league goals this season but is beginning to prove himself as a super sub rather than someone equally effective from the start. It’s something no player wants to be but dropping the Belgian could be for the greater good of the team.
Still, 6.66 isn’t bad at all.

Aston Villa: Diego Carlos (6.30)
Jaden Philogene falls short of the minutes played threshold. He was sent off at Fulham on Saturday and has an average match rating of 5.92.
Bournemouth: Julian Araujo (6.12)
Signed in the summer, Araujo is pretty much the Mexican Max Aarons, which is not ideal.
Brentford: Mads Roerslev (22)
Roerslev has been at Brentford for four years and we could not name you one thing he has done in that time. That could be construed one way or another.
Brighton: Jack Hinshelwood (6.52)
It was Bart Verbruggen, then it was Igor Julio, then we upped the minutes played required and it is Hinshelwood, who has predominantly played as a left-back for Brighton.
The 19-year-old has started eight games this season and has been hurt by his 5.49 at Chelsea at the end of September.
Chelsea: Malo Gusto (6.50)
Being Reece James’ back-up is more strenuous than being Reece James, so Gusto has played a lot since joining Chelsea in 2023. He has been a lot better than we expected but finds himself as the club’s lowest-rated player with 300+ minutes in the 2024/25 Premier League.
Crystal Palace: Ismaila Sarr (6.29)
No goal contributions in nine matches – albeit only as a starter twice – is far from ideal.
Everton: Tim Iroegbunam (6.29)
Started the season as one of the best in an awful bunch but after four defeats with Iroegbunam in the starting XI, Everton are unbeaten in the three he started on the bench, including a win in the game he didn’t come on in. They also won at Ipswich and drew v Fulham when he wasn’t in the squad. Gulp.
Fulham: Issa Diop (6.29)
Joachim Andersen is back at Fulham and will partner Calvin Bassey this season, so there is a good chance Diop’s average match rating stays in that vicinity for the entirety of 24/25, which unfortunately means he will probably be their worst-rated player until the minutes threshold is increased.
Ipswich: Wes Burns (6.00)
Ipswich are winless and Burns has zero goal contributions from the right wing in seven appearances in the Premier League, five of which were as a starter. Burns came off the bench with his side 2-0 up at Brentford. They were 3-2 down 16 minutes later.
Leicester: Oliver Skipp (6.40)
Skipp does strike us as a 6.40 out of 10.
Liverpool: Cody Gakpo (6.49)
Arne Slot’s side have been excellent this season so it would be harsh on any of Liverpool’s players to be the chosen one. This does feel about right, though. Gakpo only has two starts in the Premier League this season.
The Dutch international has bang on 300 minutes played.
Man City: Ederson (6.37)
The penalty conceded against Newcastle didn’t impact Ederson’s match rating too much. The 5.61 against Arsenal, 5.84 against Ipswich and 6.14 against Wolves hurt him more.
Ederson only has two clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
Man Utd: Joshua Zirkzee (6.47)
A match-winning goal on his debut was the perfect start. Everything since then has been, well, a little s**t.

Newcastle: Sean Longstaff (6.28)
Newcastle are winning games they shouldn’t and dropping points in games they deserve to win. It has been an peculiar start to the campaign.
Anyhow, their worst player with at least 300 minutes is homegrown midfielder Longstaff. The Magpies have outgrown him for sure and Eddie Howe’s obsession with subbing off Sandro Tonali is keeping Longstaff in a job.
Nottingham Forest: Anthony Elanga (6.36)
Elanga has one assist and zero goals having featured in every Premier League match for Forest this term. He replaces James Ward-Prowse here after we upped the minutes played from 180 to 300.
Southampton: Jack Stephens (5.75)
Oh, Southampton. Their match ratings are by far the worst in the Premier League. They have four players with 140+ league minutes with an average rating below 6.00.
Stephens has five Premier League starts this season, dropping a 4.88 against Brentford, 5.27 against Manchester United, 6.06 against Nottingham Forest and 6.02 against Newcastle. His sending off against the Red Devils on September 14 saw Stephens lose his place in the starting XI but he was given a start against Manchester City last week, presumably as his real punishment for the red card.
Tottenham: Rodrigo Bentancur (6.46)
Three yellow cards and zero goal contributions is fitting for a South American midfielder.
West Ham: Lucas Paqueta (6.36)
Paqueta is supposed to be West Ham’s best player but he has been their worst this season. There could be a few reasons for that. Still being at West Ham when he has been linked with Man City must be upsetting, then you have the whole gambling thing and the threat of a lifetime ban from English football.
The Brazilian has two goals in the Premier League this season and the algorithm is not lying to us, he hasn’t been great.
Wolves: Jose Sa (6.15)
Sa has reclaimed his spot in goal after some unconvincing performances from Sam Johnstone. Poor guy.
